Cup cheers for leaders Wardle

-

THE Christine Robinson League Cup Third round saw Newbold Tyres Premier Division leaders Wardle overcome third placed Division One side Wardleworth in an 3-1 win.

Manchester Brick Specialists also triumphed in the competition by beating Highfield 4-2 away from home.

Meanwhile underdogs Warmersley Conservative Club of Division Two, thrashed Division One Oldham GPO in a phenomenal 8-1 win, which also cemented their progression in the competition.

In addition the final round of League Cup Second Round fixtures were played which saw Middleton Town knock out Woodhouse United, Kearsley overcome Lostock and Elton & Walshaw defeat Littleborough 2nd XI.

The high levels of competition in the trophy this year show that, this is, without doubt, one of the most important and attractive trophies the RDSFL setup has to offer.

In the Third Division fixtures played this weekend Lowerhouse clinched a last gasp 4-3 win over Donkey to climb above fifth placed High Crompton Victoria.

Elsewhere Gamecock secured a solid 5-2 win over Rochdale Dynamos to ensure they remained in reach of league leaders Littleborough CCFC.

Gamecock manager, Andrew Gray said: “It was a hard fought battle in the end, all credit to Rochdale Dynamos the score doesn’t reflect the game as both teams fought hard for the win. We scored twice and they equalised twice.”

“As a manager I’ve got to say that I’m proud of our team performance and the work rate. They were all fantastic!”

Whilst AFC Swan pulled themselves off the bottom of the division table with a 2-1 win over Royal Oak.

AFC Swan Manager Aaron Hayman said: “The players gave everything and should have won by more if we had our shooting boots on.”

The win was Swan’s first of the season and no doubt Hayman and his side will hope this can be a platform to build on.
