Calvin well aware of next opponents

-

ROCHDALE striker Calvin Andrew admits his team will be well accustomed to Doncaster Rovers by the time the teams meet in the third round of the FA Cup next month.

Dale booked their place in round three with a dominant 4-0 win over non-league side Slough Town, and will now make the trip to League One rivals Doncaster.

It will be the fourth time this season that Rochdale face them, and Andrew says the team will be well aware how they operate.

“We’ve had chances to scout them a few times now, and the staff do a great job of preparing us for the games,” he said.

“We approach all of the games the same way throughout the season and go into them all with the same mentality.”

Andrew was named Man of the Match during the victory over Slough after scoring one goal and assisting two, but he believes he still could have done better.

“It was nice to receive the accolade, but as always I’m my worst critic, and I was probably a bit disappointed with myself really,” he said.

“I could have put the game to bed in the first half and had a few chances I should have scored, but we were pleased to come away with the win and for me to get the accolade of Man of the Match.

“Credit to Slough as they put in a good performance and we were expecting no less from them. Their two centre halves gave me a hard time.

“It was a good team performance from us and we stuck to task and ground out the clean sheet, so we were all happy.

“There’s bits we could still brush up on and when we come away from games we always critique the negative parts, but it was a professional performance.”

Slough play their games on a plastic pitch, and Andrew admits he could tell the difference.

“It definitely makes a difference, especially for the older players like me as you’re used to playing on grass every week,” he said. “You feel it a lot out there and some lads weren’t walking too comfortably afterwards.”
