Council services opening times over Christmas

ROCHDALE Council has announced details of opening times and service changes over Christmas and New Year.

A number of non-critical services will not be available from 5pm on Friday, December 22 until Tuesday, January 2, although emergency phone lines will be in operation throughout.

To contact the council urgently during this time, the emergency number is 0300 303 8875.

All waste and recycling collection­s will take place one day later than the normal collection date.

The council will also collect any extra recycling if cardboard is flattened and secured next to the bin and mixed recycling (glass, plastic bottles and cans) are in a clear container next to the bin.

The contact centre for non-urgent enquiries will close at 6pm on Friday, December 22 and will also be closed on Bank Holidays.

It will be open from 8am to 4pm on Wednesday, 27, Thursday, 28 and Friday, 29 December.

Libraries and customer service points are open as usual up to Friday and then closed until Tuesday, January 2.

Adult care will continue to deliver services for vulnerable people throughout.

Sure Start children’s centres are open as usual up to Thursday, December 21 and then closed - with the exception of well-baby clinics and pre-booked antenatal/post-natal appointmen­ts - until Tuesday, January 2.

Children’s social care services will continue to operate throughout and can be contacted on 0300 303 0440.

To report a concern about a child or adult outside of working hours, at weekends or during Christmas Day, Boxing Day or New Year’s Day, contact the emergency duty team on 0300 303 8875. If it’s an emergency, dial 999 for the police.

Household waste centres on Chichester Street in Rochdale and Spring Vale in Middleton are open every day apart from Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

Rochdale Town Hall and Clock Tower Dining Room are closed to the public from this Friday until Tuesday, January 2.

Main Link4Life leisure centres including Heywood Sports Village, Middleton Arena and Rochdale Central Leisure – together with Touchstone­s Arts and Heritage Centre in Rochdale, are open every day except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day although on some days opening hours will be reduced.

Marland Golf Course will be open every day except Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

Hollingwor­th Lake Visitor Centre, café and toilets are open every day except Christmas Day, from 9.30am to 5pm.

Rochdale Register Office is closed from Saturday, December 23 until Wednesday, 27 December.

It opens on Wednesday, December 27 until Friday, December 29, from 9am to 4.15pm, closes from Saturday, December 30 to Monday, January 1 and then reopens from Tuesday, January 2 as normal.

The leader of the council, Councillor Allen Brett said: “Details of the changes are available online and we’ll update the pages with any last minute service disruption­s.

“Some services have amended opening times but as always we have emergency numbers available throughout the holidays so you can contact us if it’s urgent.
