In right direction for coach
HORNETS head coach Alan Kilshaw insists his side are ‘heading in a really good direction’ after their 24-10 defeat to Warrington Wolves during the weekend.
Hornets gave a good account of themselves against their Super League opposition at the Crown Oil Arena, in what is their penultimate friendly before the Kingstone Press Championship.
Kilshaw was pleased with the performance, and says there are plenty of positives to take out of the match.
“I’m happy with the attitude and the response from the Oldham game. We were looking for improvements against Warrington and I thought we got that,” he said.
“The enthusiasm and desire was there. We were smart and our completions were up, so we did some good stuff. Our play in attack was really good as well.
“We were playing against a quality side with Super League talent, so to only concede four tries is pleasing as well. We’ve get another good week ahead of us and then it’s the last friendly two weeks before we play Batley in the season opener.
“We’re heading in a really good direction and the general feeling in the camp is that there’s been an improvement against Warrington and we’re happy with that.”
Kilshaw was also happy with some of the individual performances from his side, with some players required to fill in for certain absentees.
“Lewis was unavailable for family reasons, so we put Dave in and I thought he did well. We’ve not had James Rowland’s clearance yet to play so that was unfortunate,” he said.
“We wanted to keep it simple on the right edge and I thought we did that, so even though there is stuff to work on, there are plenty of positives there and we’re heading in the right direction.”
