Rehman and Mulcahy put record on line

-

ROCHDALE boxer Bilal Rehman will have the biggest fight of his career so far when he faces Ryan Mulcahy for the Central Area light-welterweight title live on Sky Sports.

Rehman will fight Mulcahy at the Echo Arena in Liverpool on April 21, with both boxers putting their respective 10-0 unbeaten records on the line.

It will be on the undercard of Amir Khan’s comeback fight against Phil Lo Greco, with Rehman and Mulcahy going head to head at a press conference earlier this week.

“It’s a massive step up for you. You’ve never fought anybody at my level and I’m going to show you what I’m capable of,” said Rehman.

“If I didn’t want the fight then why am I here now? In my debut I went to Scotland beat a guy who was 5-0, I then beat Ashley Peyton last year who was 10-0, this will be another win.

“I’m really looking forward to showing my skills on a big platform like Sky Sports and letting people see what I can do in the ring.”

Rehman and Mulcahy weren’t the only one going head to head at the press conference, as Khan and Lo Greco had to be pulled apart by security.

The Bolton boxer was unhappy after Lo Greco brought up a past incident regarding Khan’s wife and Anthony Joshua, leading to Khan throwing a glass of water in Lo Greco’s face.

It led to a brawl between both teams before they were eventually separated by security, but Khan insists that he Lo Greco will be taught a lesson.

“He is a bum who is going to get knocked out. He’s going to get such a beating, he’s a guy you give a slow beating to. You make him look stupid,” said Khan.

“He’s coming to my country, he’s coming to my territory and time will tell. He’s got a big gob on him that is going to get him into trouble. He needs a slow punishment.

“Bringing up personal stuff is when it goes to far. When it goes to family I want to set my ground. He got what was coming to him and he realised he said something stupid.

“There is no point talking big and talking all this trash thinking he’s going to get under my skin. He’s not going to. I’m 31, I’m very experienced and older than before. He didn’t get to me in that I got angry, I just wanted to put him in his place.”

Promoter Eddie Hearn also felt that Khan had a right to react after the comments that Lo Greco had made.

“Once you make comments like that it changes it completely, it’s not just banter,” said Hearn.

“If someone said that about my family then they would be getting more than water over their head, and I’m not even a boxer!”

Tickets for the event featuring Rehman vs. Mulcahy, along with Khan vs. Lo Greco, are now available and can be purchased from www.echoarena.com
