Smooth roads ahead as Valley shares £3m pot
FOUR roads in Whitworth are in line for improvements when Rossendale shares in a £3 million pot available to repair pothole-ridden residential streets and help prevent flooding.
The Valley has received the third highest amount in Lancashire to restore roads in Whitworth, Rawtenstall and Waterfoot.
The list has been drawn up following a series of workshops with county councillors in November and December last year.
The Whitworth roads set to be repaired are:
Wallbank Drive (Hall Street to Eastgate/ Westgate) - £76,836.04
Tong Lane (Cowm Park Way North to Market Street) - £48,438.65
●●Oak Street (Heatherlands to Market Street) £29,282.53
Tonacliffe Road (Oakenshaw Avenue to Market Street) £53,703.08.
Rossendale will receive nearly £445,000 for road repairs, with only West Lancashire and Chorley receiving more.
The funding was approved at a county council cabinet meeting last week.
Mid-Rossendale county councillor David Foxcroft, who lives in Crawshawbooth, said: “It’s fantastic news that from the additional funding we put into the highways budget in July we are allocating funds to improve the condition of urban unclassified roads.
“Across Rossendale there will be nine separate schemes, investing nearly £445,000 into our roads.”
County Councillor Keith Iddon, cabinet member for highways and transport, said they want to give visitors and potential investors ‘a good impression of Lancashire’.
He said: “Lancashire’s roads are vital to our economy, ensuring people and goods can travel efficiently, and it’s essential that we priori- tise funding accordingly to keep them in good condition.”
