THE devastated family of a mum found dead said ‘she was not only a mother, she was also our best friend’.

Rahman Begum, 46, was found with multiple stab wounds at a house in Spotland last Wednesday.

Police were called to Clement Royds Street by the ambulance service and a full investigation into her death was launched.

In tribute to the muchloved mother, sister, aunty and best friend, the family said: “She was the most precious and closest person we had. She was not only a mother, she was also our best friend, sister and aunty. She never ever put herself before the children. She was the most caring, polite and respectful woman to ever come across.

“Her children meant the world to her. She would always be smiling and laughing no matter what the situation was. We are so proud to call her our mother, now all we have left is the beautiful moments and memories we shared with her.

“She has given us all the courage and strength to keep us going. We will miss you and always love you.”

Greater Manchester Police launched an investigation into her death and forensic teams remained at the house until Thursday. Neighbours and elders at The Golden Mosque and Islamic Cultural Centre, described her as a ‘lovely person’ who adored her children.

A spokesman for the mosque said: “She was a really nice lady – well spoken and polite.”

It is understood Ms Begum’s husband and son were in Pakistan at the time of her death.

A resident on Clement Royds Street said: “She was a nice, friendly lady. She was always smiling and very happy whenever we saw her.

Police confirmed Mohammed Tafham, 30, of Clement Royds Street, has been charged with murder.

He was remanded in custody to appear at Manchester magistrates court on Tuesday.
