Viking Aeron edged out by experience

-

AERON ‘The Viking’ Maddocks narrowly missed out on victory when he met the vastly experienced Kai Morley of Clayton ABC in the Quarter Finals of the North West Counties Junior Championships.

The championship match was made on Clayton ABC annual boxing show at the Unity WMC on Rossendale Road, Burnley and Morley came out for the first round full of confidence knowing that the local crowd was behind him.

He began by connecting with lightning fast combinations that continued to catch the Hamer youth and the eyes of the judges as 15-year-old Maddocks moved towards him.

Maddocks continued to push forward and as the round progressed he began to claw his way back into the contest but it wasn’t enough to take the round.

In round two it was the Hamer boxer who took the initiative and he continued to push Morley onto the ropes with solid punches before unloading hooks to both the body and head to take the round.

The third and final round was to be the deciding round and Maddocks stormed out to take the fight to his opponent once again.

Morley was by now very tired and although Maddocks looked the fresher of the two Morley showed his vast experience when he continued to clinch and hold the Hamer youth before unloading a sneaky left hook to the head which was just enough to steal the round and the match.

Hamer Amateur Boxing Club then travelled to Warrington on Saturday 24th February with four ten year old youngsters who were hoping to compete in Skills Bouts against Liverpool opponents.

Hamer managed to get two youngsters on the bill that afternoon and the first to compete was Macaulay ‘Cool Hand’ Evans who met Reece Montague of Anfield ABC in a bout that had both boxers boxing for the very first time in-front of spectators and the crowd showed their appreciation when both youngsters had their hands raised after the final round.

Next on was “Champagne” Charlie Braddock” who was also competing in a Skills Bout against Yassin Khan of Phoenix Fire ABC.

Braddock showed a great determination and drive when competing against a much bigger and experience opponent who had already competed in two competitive bouts.

On Sunday 25th February 11 year old Alana “Top Banana” Shaw met Jessica Keetan of Crowle ABC when representing North West Female Warriors in Chorlton, Manchester.

Hamer coach Steven Connellan was hoping to find a competitive bout for Alana but the Crowle coach wanted a skills bout for his boxer who had already competed in five previous skills bouts.

It was to prove the correct move for the Crowle boxer when the Hamer youngster showed skills way beyond her years as she entertained the crowd with fast combinations that would have seen her have her hand raised in victory had it been a competitive match.
