Dreaming of hamsters in youth show

-

steve@aata.me BASED in Rochdale, founded in 1977, M6 Theatre specialises in creating and delivering dynamic productions for young audiences.

The company’s work is renowned for its deep emotional resonance and the dynamic combination of original storytelling, highly visual imagery and evocative music.

M6’s Youth Theatre runs three weekly sessions, one for each group: ages 15 to 18, 12 to 14 and Act to Shine.

At these sessions, young people get the chance to create and perform theatre, work with professional theatre makers, learn other skills such as film, dance, comedy and creative writing, gain confidence, make new friends, experiment, experience and explore.

Each group is presenting a newly devised performance:

The Factory, by Act to Shine, will be on stage on Friday, March 23, at 7pm. Tickets cost £1.

The show explores what it means to be different. With warmth and humour, it tells a story of the challenges and power of being different.

Everyone at The Factory is the same. The makers like routine and order and they like every day to be the same. There’s nothing wrong with that, is there?

We discover what happens when a newrecruit arrives in The Factory. She’s certainly not like everyone else.

She dresses differently, she knocks things over and – worst of all – she sings.

Growing Pains, by the ages 15 to 18 Youth Theatre, will be staged on Monday, March 26 and Tuesday, March 27, at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £3 for adults, £2 for concessions.

M6’s 15-18s Youth Theatre members share their memories of growing up. Some of the stories are true, some are partly dramatised for the audience’s entertainment and some are completely made up.

There are even parts of the performance that they haven’t actually rehearsed.

Growing Pains is a light-hearted look back at playground antics and teenage angst.

When I’m Bored I Dream About Hamsters, by the ages 12 to 14 Youth Theatre, is set for Wednesday, March 28 and Thursday, March 29, at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £3 for adults, £2 for concessions.

The members of M6 12-14s group have been exploring what boredom in the modern world means - what happens to us when we become bored.

Can we escape boredom and why does it exist.

Have you ever been so bored you’ve dreamt about hamsters?
