Goals the only facet missing
THE result may not have been exactly what he wanted – but Keith Hill had no complaints where Saturday’s performance against Wimbledon was concerned.
“It was a good, winning performance, it just wasn’t a winning result,” he said.
“The reason why we didn’t win is we didn’t convert our opportunities. It’s a different day, but the same song. I’m not disappointed with the effort, the endeavour, the commitment and the way we try to play, so I’m pleased with a lot of things.
“After three clean sheets I knew we were going to concede a goal, it was just a case of when. We dealt with conceding really well, but the opportunities which came after we’d equalised were a joke!
“It was ridiculous really, when you consider how hard the players worked, that we did not get the victory we deserved but I look at the fact we have eight points from the last four games and a fivepoint gap now between us and Northampton and MK Dons, so slowly, slowly we are catching up.
“It’s the hare and tortoise effect if you like – but we have to make sure that we don’t waste these opportunities.
“Our conversion ratio is the only thing missing from last season or the season before because defensively we are pretty good.
“Their goalkeeper was superb and I felt we should have had one penalty, maybe two. But I felt the referee and officials had an off day and they have got to hold their hands up when they’ve been involved in a game like that because these decisions affect this football club.
“It was strange that we didn’t get a penalty for one or two of those incidents sometimes things work against you, but the spirit is good, commitment is good and I’m pleased with the way we are playing.”
