doesn’t take away from our poor performance.

“It’s way off what we expected. We could still run hard, tackle hard, put pressure on the kicker and take balls but we didn’t do that. We went 16-0 up but then put the cue in the rack and fell in love with ourselves.

“Credit to Normanton as we knew they’d have a dig and come strong, but we were still pretty disgraceful in some areas. We had a bit of disruption and lost some players but we’re not offering any excuses.

“Normanton are a strong side and had nothing to lose, and we did some dumb stuff in the game and put pressure on ourselves at time.

Printed by Mirror Colour Printers (Oldham) Ltd, Hollinwood Avenue, Chadderton, Oldham OL9 8EB Massam and Ben Moores did well, but on the whole there wasn’t enough good performances for me to be happy.

“There is a saying in rugby that an ugly win is a good win, but I disagree with that based on this performance. We’ve got Toronto in the league next week and we really need to focus on that now.”

Hornets were set to find out who they face in the fifth round of the Challenge Cup when the draw took place on Tuesday.
