MP meets parents group
MP Tony Lloyd met with charity bosses to discuss how more parents can get involved with their children’s schooling.
The Rochdale MP spoke with Parentkind, previously known as PTA UK, a national charity that champions parents’ role in education, at an event at Westminster.
There are 14 schools in Rochdale that are Parentkind members, which are being supported by the charity with advice and information.
Mr Lloyd said: “I was delighted to meet with Parentkind to learn more about what measures we can take to positively involve parents in their children’s education. At a time when many schools are struggling with funding concerns, parent groups actively helping in their children’s school life to improve their performance can only be positive.”
Acting Parentkind CEO Michelle Doyle Wildman said: “We are hugely encouraged that so many MPs have pledged their support to Parentkind’s mission.
“Whether it’s supporting learning at home or volunteering at school, there is substantial evidence of the enormous positive impact that parental involvement throughout the school years has on a child’s education. As well as greatly enhancing how well a child does at school, it’s very fulfilling for parents of all kinds.
“We look forward to working with Tony over the coming months in our efforts to establish parental participation in schools as an essential part of school improvement plans and positive outcomes for every child.”
