Thirds in pole position

-

LITTLEBOROUGH Thirds moved one step closer to the Division 4 East title with another impressive 61-7 demolition of Trafford MV Thirds.

With five games left of the regular season and with an eight point lead, Littleborough could not afford to slip up at home with big games against promotion rivals Wilmslow and Glossop to come. Instead Littleborough put together a sensational display of all round rugby from fluid running rugby in attack and ferocious line speed and turnover rates in defence. Scoring 9 tries in total Littleborough have not only dramatically increased their points difference but capitalised on main rivals Glossop’s shock defeat at the hands of Hope Valley.

Team managers Rob Hensby and Adam Bracegirdle along with their supporters would have been delighted with the way their team started as they scored a world class opening try more befitting a Six Nations game rather than a 3rd team contest. Keeping possession whilst making significant yardage through a number of crash balls, the quick ball was fired out to the open spaces of the wing for Luke Carter to dive over. Prop Mat Wild, played like a man who has clearly been missing rugby, scored his first of two tries on a barnstorming run to the line.

It was not before he also took advantage of a quick tap penalty taken by Tom Travis and his significant frame to crash over from close range.

Another Boro star who can be very difficult to stop when in full flight is Jason Clegg and the seasoned titan used all his brawn and brain to carve throuhg Trafford on the way to another double.

The forwards consistently set the platform for a comprehensive victory with great endeavour at the set piece as well as legally winning the breakdown.

H.A.T Steve for instance produced 6 turnovers in an incredible display from the forwards.
