THE grieving mum of a 21-year-old man killed in a horror Easter car crash has paid touching tribute to her ‘soulmate and sidekick’.

Kavana Taylor, who was in a blue BMW 1 series, died after the car was in collision with a blue Volkswagen Polo in the early hours of Easter Sunday.

Now Kavana’s parents, mum Claire and dad Ian, have spoken for the first time since the tragedy.

Claire, 39, paid tribute to her son in a statement released through police on Tuesday and said his death had ‘left a void that will never be filled’.

She said: “Kavana was everybody’s friend. The cards, messages and support have blown me away. He was my soulmate and sidekick and the best biggest brother to Sammy, Lola and Rudi. ●●Kavana Taylor died when the BMW he was driving crashed with a Volkswagen Polo, on Manchester Road, Castleton on Easter Sunday

“He has left a void that will never be filled.”

Kavana’s father Ian, 55, also paid tribute to his son.

He said: “He was the best loving son a father could ever wish for. He was my best mate. He will be always loved and sadly missed by everybody who knew him.”

The fatal crash happened on Manchester Road in Castleton, near to the Blue Pits Inn pub and the railway station.

Kavana, from Deeplish, was treated at the scene but died from his injuries.

A second man who was in the BMW, aged 25, received minor injuries and is currently assisting police with the investigation, a GMP spokesman said.

Kavana, a motorbike enthusiast known to friends as Kav, celebrated his 21st birthday just a fortnight before his death.

Friends are rallying round the family and a host of fundraising appeals have been issued.

The driver of the Polo sustained minor injuries.

Police said an investiga- tion into the collision has now been launched.

PC Seamus Toal, from GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, appealed to anyone with dash-camera footage to come forward.

“My thoughts are with the Kavana’s family and loved ones,” he said. “I cannot imagine what they are going through. We have launched an investigation into this collision and we are hoping that the public may be able to help us.

“We are also keen to speak to anyone who saw a blue BMW 1 series in the area of the collision or in Rochdale town centre in the early hours of Sunday morning.”
