Friend saddles up for memorial ride

-

FRIENDS of Kavana are raising money in his memory.

Crowdfunding appeals have been launched following his death.

Tributes poured in for ‘Kav’ - as he was known to friends - on social media. Kavana, of Deeplish, celebrated his 21st birthday just a fortnight before his death.

He leaves behind mother Claire, 39, dad Ian, 55, sisters Lola and Sammy, 13 and 29 and brother Rudi, six.

Kavana’s pal Deklan Hardman is planning a sponsored bike ride from Rochdale to the Etihad Stadium to coincide with the Manchester derby on Saturday.

In a post on the Go Fund Me website Deklan writes: “I am doing this off good of my heart because I love Kavana and his family. As most of you will be aware it’s Derby Day on Saturday (City v United). I am gonna be cycling from Rochdale town centre to the Etihad Stadium and back when the game has ended to raise money for young Kavana’s funeral.

“If any of you can donate anything at all, anything from 50p to £1 so on and so on it would be much appreciated and all the money raised will go Kavana’s family.”

At the time of writing, the appeal had raised almost half of its £1,000 target. Another appeal set up by Bev English on the JustGiving website has raised £470 towards its £5,000 target.

Bev writes: “Tragically this morning 21-year-old Kavana lost his life in a fatal car accident. Please can I ask everybody to help in anyway you can & kindly donate so that we can come together as a community & show Claire & Ian how much we all care.”
