Boro hit four for Trophy success

LITTLEBORO­UGH CCFC have won the Denis John Trophy Final at Fox Park with a 4-1 win against Jockey.

Jockey were the more dominant side in the firsthalf, during which they took a 1-0 lead against the Boro.

In the second-half Boro were quicker out of the blocks and before long they equalised through Levi Simic.

As the half went on Boro began to gain more control over the game, before long Danny Newall fired them ahead for the first time.

Boro soon began to seal out the game, Jamie Halliday made it 3-1, before Lewis Hanna added a Littleboro­ugh fourth.

Manager Sam Jenkins, dubbed by his players as ‘Jenksy Mourinho’ commented on his side’s success: “As strong as Jockey were today, my lads just had their confidence back and began to find the gaps in Jockey’s defence.

“I’m so proud of the lads, they have shown lots of confidence throughout the season and I couldn’t have asked for any more of them.

“Hopefully, we can keep this run going and bring home the league title for a season double!”

At the top of the Sun Chemical Division Two Warmersley Conservati­ve Club were held to a 2-2 draw against Catholic Club.

Catholic Club controlled the early stages of the match despite an uneven pitch, however, it was Warmersley who took the lead after 20 minutes.

Shortly after Warmersley headed home to extend their lead before the interval.

Rhys Jones then gave Catholic Club a way back into the match when he turned the ball in at the back-post.

Catholic Club battled hard to get the all-important equaliser and they did late in the game, when George Genesis was fouled in the penalty area.

He confidentl­y stepped up to slot home to ensure a split of the points.

In the Newbold Tyres Premier Division Rochdalian­s obliterate­d Littleboro­ugh FC with a 3-0 win to level with them on points in the division.

Both sides sit in second and third respective­ly, but are 11 points behind league leaders Wardle.

Scott Hopley got the opener for Dalians when he got on the end of a corner to nod home, before Joe Burgoyne fired home to double their advantage.

Callum Walker got the third to confirm Dalians would get the three points.
