Calland looking to lift side off foot of table

-

FRESH from victory in the Oldham Standard Cup final on Easter Monday, Mayfield are back in Kingstone Press NCL Premier division action this afternoon with a home fixture against Cumbrians Wath Brow.

Mayfield are currently sitting at the bottom of the division without a victory or a point to their name after three games.

Those who know Matt Calland will know that this is unacceptable to him, and he will be doing his utmost to instil in the side that this is just not good enough.

The quality is there – the players just need to let it out. It’s not good enough to know you are good enough – you have to show you are good enough or it all counts for nothing.

It’s early days yet and there is little doubt that the side will get it together and today may just be the day that happens.

Wath Brow have won two out of four of their games so far and will be looking to show that they are not just a home side, so Mayfield will have to be on their guard.

A win this afternoon would go a long way to putting a poor start behind them so its all systems go for the lads.

The NWML side are also at home this aft, entertaining Pilkington recs. Pilks have a great pedigree but are not enjoying the best of starts this season having only won one out of four starts. Dave Harmer and Craig White should have a strong squad to select from today with some of last week’s Standard cCp winning side slotting back in after being given a confidence booster in the game.
