Gleeson back to get Mayfield firing
MAYFIELD travel to York today as they attempt to kick start their season. They are boosted by the return Aidan Gleeson after his short tour with GB teachers.
Gleeson will bolster the forwards and lift the younger members of the side with his powerful play and blockbusting running near the line.
The coaches will be looking for similar efforts to last week when Matty Chrimes and Dec Sheridan who stood out in the defeat defeat.
This is a good chance for The Field to pick up their first win against a side who are just above them in the league with one point after a draw with Kells but coaches Matt Calland and Sam Butterworth have taken nothing for granted in their preparation for this game knowing that Myton are good side with a strong set of forwards and a good defence.
Despite losing against an ordinary Wath Brow last week the coaches and players are still upbeat taking a lot of positives from the performance.
The NWML side are at home again for the fourth successive week today as they face Barrow side Hindpool Tigers.
The Cumbrians are one spot above Mayfield with two wins from three starts. Dave Harmer and Craig White are expecting their side to be strengthened by returning players but it will be difficult to leave out anyone after the last couple of performances.
Old stager Rob Kershaw said: “I have been very impressed with the young lads this season especially Sal Mahmood, Jackson Kelly and Aidan Lewis who made his debut last week. It has also been good to see the improvement shown by Luke Hartley who was outstanding in the second row and really looks to be enjoying his rugby at the moment.
“Another positive for the side has been the signing of powerful winger Christian Avis who has slotted in well and looks to have a promising future in the game.”
