Mayfield welcome first win at Myton

- MYTON WARRIORS.22 MAYFIELD ................. 44 SIMON HOWE

MAYFIELD travelled to Hull on Saturday and returned with a much needed win and their first league points of the season.

In doing so they showed some of the sparkling attacking play that has been a trademark of the last few, very successful, seasons.

Coach Matt Calland was forced to implement wholesale changes to the team due to injuries and other commitments and gave first team debuts to Christian Avis, Jackson Kelly and Joe Muir whilst Lewis Butterworth, Sam Butterworth and Callum Ogden made their first appearance of the season.

The new players showed the necessary passion and commitment to race into a 32-0 lead that effectively had the game won at halftime.

Liam Whalley scored with the first play of the game, and tries from Paul Brearley (15mins), Callum Marriott (18mins), Sam Butterworth (21 mins), Cole Connolly (25 mins) and Aidy Gleeson (28 mins) followed as Mayfield ripped holes in the home defence time and time again.

Aidy Gleeson added four conversions for a commanding 32-0 half time lead.

The second half started much the same as Christian Avis sped in for a great try and 36-0 lead.

Myton hit back to score four tries as Mayfield relaxed, but Keiran Harmer (60 mins) and Cole Connolly (79 mins) scored for Mayfield to seal a creditable 22-44 away win that showed Mayfield can play some great attacking rugby and have strength in depth in the squad.
