LAST-MINUTE preparations are under way for the Street Eat festival which takes place over the May Bank Holiday Weekend.

The two-day event will be serving up another helping for anyone looking for something to eat, drink and free entertainment.

It’s being staged this Saturday and Sunday next to the town hall and is being organised by Rochdale Town Centre Management in partnership with Rochdale council. Some of the town’s best food and drink traders will be dishing up, dozens of mouth-watering dishes at £3 each, including Spanish, Italian, English, Chinese, American cuisine and more.

Traders include: La Mancha, Cocka Doodle Moo, The Clock Tower Dining Room, Vicolo de Vino, The Flying Horse Hotel, The Riverside Restaurant and more.

There will be fun activities and rides for the children, including guest appearances by and photo opportunities with Captain America and Spiderman.

There will also be Punch and Judy Shows performed every hour during the daytime.

For the adults as well as fine food there will be bars open on both days and live music on stage hosted by Revolution 96.2. There’s a full lineup of live music featuring local acts including The Funky Two Hats, Noel Fraser, Between the Vines, Indigo Sunset and more.

Paul Ambrose, from Rochdale Town Centre Management, said local traders have come up with great ideas and the menu is looking very tasty: “I am pleased that Street Eat is back for its second year to bring people together through food and drink and to celebrate Rochdale’s town centre eateries in a fun festival setting. Last year we had a great response and I hope people will come out again and support this local community event. It’s family-friendly – you’ll be able to buy and try as many small dishes as you like, and enjoy them in a relaxed atmosphere.”

Street Eat is sponsored by building and construction company Willmott Dixon - who are developing the new £80 million Rochdale Riverside retail and leisure scheme in the town centre. Admission is free and no tickets are needed. Visit rochdale. gov.uk/events for more details.
