Strong start essential for Mayfield at Pats

-

CRAIG White takes his NWML side into the North West Men’s League cup this afternoon.

They travel to Wigan St Pats for a mouth watering clash which is sure to be well supported on both sides.

Mayfield have beaten Pats once in the league this season but the cup is a different proposition.

Mayfield go into the game as favourites having secured the top spot with last week’s victory at Pilkingtons, but that will count for nothing at Pats ground, against a club that has seen it all before.

White is expecting to have his strongest squad as he welcomes back the lads who were

called into the first team last week so they will travel with confidence even knowing that the St Pats first team have no game.

“This team fear no one, they go into every game wanting to win, and that has served them well so far this season,” said White.

“We didn’t start well at Pilks last week but once we got into our rhythm we played some great rugby and ran out deserved winners.

“The boys have trained well this week and shown a positive attitude.

“I’ve tried to instil in them the need for a strong start today because Pats will have their best side out and will be trying their best to win this game.

“We have a good squad at the minute with the perfect blend of youth and experience with Rob Kershaw and John Foy in the twilight of their careers while at the other end there’s Corey Newsham, Sal Mahmood and Jackson Kelly who are still in the under 18 side.

“Whatever happens today I know we’ll give a good account of ourselves and hopefully we will do enough to progress to the next round of the cup.”
