Megan proves to be a real Warrior

-

LITTLEBOROUGH’S Under 18 Captain Megan Dickinson has been selected for a spot in Wigan Warriors new Under 19 ladies team.

The 18-year-old from Smithy Bridge impressed in a series of trials amongst 100+ girls at Wigan Warriors training ground earlier this year.

Megan, who is currently in the middle of her A Level exams has been playing rugby league in the off season for Wigan St Patrick’s and joins six of her St Patrick team mates in the Warriors squad.

In the newly launched team that will go up against four other Super League under 19 ladies teams. Megan will not only have the chance to cement a place in the team over the next few years but push for senior honours and a potential professional career.

Captain Dickinson has been an integral part of Littleborough’s under 18 girls team at scrum half and shown quality in her distribution and organisational game.

This last year has seen the young star play for both Lancashire and Lancashire Roses, while overcoming wretched luck with injuries, she has had over the last two months.

Megan has a heart condition which required her to have surgery. The surgery involved fitting a LINQ recorder which downloads and sends an ECG everyday to the consultant.

Initially it was thought she wouldn’t be able to play any contact sports again but the consultant said if she gets the right padding, she would be given the all clear to resume her playing career.

After a long and thorough search, the family found a company called Aptoella who make bespoke padding for women’s rugby. Canadian based Aptoella have made a specially designed protection padded bra which protects her heart and the device.

Having been unavailable action over the last month since having the surgery, Megan unfortunately broke her ankle in the third game back playing for Wigan St Patrick’s.

However Megan is positive that she will make a swift recovery.
