Range ROVER clocks up 50 miles – and a speeding ticket – in care of airport firm

ABUSINESSM­AN who left his Range Rover with a Manchester Airport meet and greet firm claims he returned to find 50 extra miles on the clock - and a speeding ticket.

Steve Taylor, 55 from Milnrow, paid £72 to leave his £100,000 Autobiogra­phy-series luxury 4x4 with Manchester Airport Parking Services Ltd on June 6.

But he says that on returning from his 13-day break to Canada, he was shocked to find 50 extra miles on the clock, despite claiming staff told him his car would be parked 500 metres from the airport.

On checking out his mileage tracker, Steve claims he discovered his car had been driven:

Steve, the director of a constructi­on firm, says all his radio stations had been changed and, to add insult to injury, he received a speeding ticket four days after his return. It was dated June 10 while Steve says he was in the middle of his holiday in Vancouver.

When Steve complained and sent proof from his route tracker, they accepted they were at fault.

An email from Manchester Airport Parking Services, also known as Meet and Greet Manchester Airport Parking Services, on June 28, read: “We are sorry for the delays, we are very apologetic for the misuse of the vehicle and the driver involved in the incident has been fired, we have a car park at Higher Bury St and also another in Styal, Wilmslow.

“We have looked at the tracker info you sent to us and have reviewed it and we admit the car had been misused.

“We would like to reimburse you for the petrol used and the misuse of the vehicle with a refund for the parking. Please let us know how you would like to proceed further, thank you.”

But Steve says he cannot get the firm to address the speeding ticket - and wants to warn other potential customers.

He added: “When the (speeding) ticket was issued I was in Vancouver and can prove it.

“I have made over 20 phone calls but nobody is answering.”

When contacted about Steve’s complaint, Manchester Airport Parking Services Ltd said in a statement they had not received any evidence of a speeding ticket: “We were only contacted by this customer a few days ago and asked for time to investigat­e and have assured the customer that we will take responsibi­lity if we are at fault. However we need a copy of the speeding ticket as we so far have no evidence of any speeding ticket.”

The firm added that it was ‘normal’ to take cars staying for more than six days to their overflow compound, a policy which is in their terms and conditions.

The spokesman added: “We have since contacted the customer for the evidence of a speeding ticket and also offered to pay towards any petrol as a gesture of good will.”
