Boro crush poor

-

LITTLEBOROUGH hammered Milnrow by nine wickets in a very one sided affair at Hare Hill on Saturday.

This fixture used to be the first game this writer used to look for when the fixtures were released at the turn of each year.

It used to attract large crowds. The games were evenly matched and very competitive. The banter was fantastic and it stayed on the pitch.

The craic after was even fiercer post match and there was even the odd dressing room song thrown in.

Sadly, this Milnrow ‘team’ (Harry Royds excluded) resembled something I used to play against on Springy Park in the heights of the Rochdale and District Midweek Cricket League back in the 90s.

The day started poorly for the home side as Nathan Taylor was rushed to the infirmary minutes before the start after complaining of feeling unwell.

The good news is Nathan was discharged later that day after being given the all clear by the doctors.

With the Boro down to ten men and the game due to start shortly, yours truly was drafted in only due to the fact that I was there preparing the wicket.

This was another day to remember for Ryan Miskella as he helped himself to his third five wicket haul of the season as he ripped through the heart of the batting and was very well backed by Wilman in particular, Smith Butler and Kaber.

Kaber won the toss and had no hesitation in deciding to bowl with overhead conditions favourable for swing bowling.

Milnrow raced to 14 off 10 overs and I thought I was watching two Mike Arnolds from my view at short extra cover.

That soon became 14-3 as first Miskella dismissed Shipley to a well judged catch by Willis after a small mix up going for the catch, then Miskella bowled Park all ends up for 5 before Wilman had Dryden caught at the wicket for a duck.

This brought Royds to join Hornbuckle at the crease as they looked to rebuild and they took the score to 46 before Smith Butler produced a beauty to bowl the visiting
