Teenage boy is sexually assaulted while fishing
ATEENAGE boy was sexually assaulted while fishing.
Detectives say the child was lured to the scene by a man aged around 60, who told the youngster he would have a better chance of attracting fish there than in the spot where he was.
It happened near to Hollingworth Road, Littleborough, at around 5.20pm on Tuesday.
Police say that the victim was fishing in the canal when he was approached by the attacker. The teenager followed him but was sexually assaulted before managing to escape.
A spokesman for GMP said that the boy was being supported by specially-trained officers.
Inquiries into the incident are ongoing and police are hoping to speak to a man in con- nection with the assault.
He is described as white, around 60 years old, 5ft 9in, of small build with balding white hair and a slight beard. He was wearing a jumper.
Detective Sergeant Paul Davies, of GMP’s Rochdale Borough, said: “We’ve been in the area where the offence took place to gather as much evidence as we can and, from what we know at the moment, a man matching this same description was seen near to the canal a few days ago.
“If anyone has seen a man matching the description – it may be that he is local to the area or a frequent visitor – or saw anyone acting suspiciously, please get in touch with us as soon as you possibly can.
“While I understand this is extremely concerning for people who live nearby, we are supporting the teenager and will do everything we can to find that person responsible.”
