LIFE IN MY NORTHERN TOWN

-

FIRST of all, I would like to apologise for the intermittent nature of this column over the last few weeks.

Unfortunately, I have an issue with my internet which is, well, nonexistent.

I won’t say who my internet provider is, except to say that at the moment the service is pie-in-the...

Anyway, so it was off to the Feelgood Festival the other week and jolly good it was too.

This really is becoming a really good annual event and the bands this year were excellent, although I would question the compere’s description of the headlining bands as “Two of the most important bands in musical history” Really? A handful of top 10 hits does not make a legend in my mind.

No disrespect to the organisers or the bands themselves, but usually the type of band that plays the festival are way past their sell-by date.

A bit like Gary Lineker playing for Rochdale.

Still, both Cast and Feeder were excellent and the supporting bands were good too, although that Ska band did start to grate after a while.

That apart – and one or two issues which I will go discuss next week – Oh, come on, this column would not be the same without a good moan – the festival was a great success.

I always enjoy it as I get to meet friends I have not seen for ages and I assumed had moved away, died or just lost the will to live – ie, got married.

And the crowd was well- behaved too, although you got the impression that one or two were – let’s say, right co-ordinates, wrong planet – if you catch my drift.

Of course, it is also a great meeting place for all the Dale fans who are usually very happy to see me. Just think of one of those wildlife programmes where the stray antelope is being torn apart by a pack of bloodthirsty lions and you kind of get the picture.

And there were other events going on around town as well, such as a band on in the Flyer, food stalls and things to do for the children.

All in all, a great day for all those who attended and the weather was kind, which made a change.

So congratulations to all those involved.

Next week I will take a different view when normal, sarcastic service is resumed.
