Premier spot in sight for NWML side

-

AFTER the excitement of last week’s NCL finish to the season, Mayfield’s NWML side play their own final game of the league campaign at the Mayfield Sports Centre this afternoon when they entertain fifth-placed Pilkingtons.

A win or draw would mean that Mayfield take the league leaders shield and have a great chance of promotion to the Premier division for the first time in their history.

This would be a massive achievement for the side coached by Craig White and Neil Ramsden. They are a young side and the potential is enormous.

“We beat Pilks on their own ground in June,” said White.

“And we go into this game looking to complete the double. They are a decent side and will be no walkovers this afternoon, but we have trained hard. I have always liked the old adage, fail to prepare prepare to fail, this is very true and something we can’t be accused of, especially this week as training has been very good with a good intensity.

“We have a strong squad to select from today with everyone reporting fit, so picking the side will be a difficult task but we will select what we feel to be the right seventeen for the job in hand.

“We have had some stand out players this season with Corey Newsham, Joe Schofield, Zac Hartley and Luke Hartley all being excellent while Jack Rush, Paul Riley and Callum Corchoran have stood out in the pack. Rob Kershaw has led the team well using his twenty years of experience at the club to guide the side through tough games and being a strong voice when needed.”

A win will set up a home fixture in the play offs against either Latchford or Widnes Tigers.
