Wednesday, September 26, at St Mary’s at 12.30pm: Toad Lane lunchtime concert, featuring Matthew Lam (piano). Admission £4. Refreshmen­ts and lunches from 11.30am.

Thursdays at St Chad’s, 10.30am to noon: Place of Welcome, with Scrabble, conversati­on and tea and coffee. Free admission.

Thursdays at St Chad’s at 7.30pm: Choir practice – new members welcome.

We have another fund-raising lunch (and tombola!) on October 13. Funds raised go towards the ongoing roof repair works and redecorati­on of the entrance hall. WIGAN-BASED band Duke’s Road, formerly known as Gifted, will perform one of their superb musical evenings on Saturday, October 6.

It will be their fifth autumnal visit and each of the previous four concerts has been a success, not only for the entertainm­ent provided by the musicians but also for the funds we raise for church, given that Duke’s Road perform to raise money for churches and charities. We are hugely grateful to Mike Nash, lead guitar, Jamie Harrison, bass and lead vocals, Keith Claxton, drums and Tony Bostock, keyboard, guitar and backing vocals, who deserve the support of a packed church, as they have always enjoyed previously. The evening includes a 30-minute singalong, taking those of a certain age back to the immediate post-war years of the 1940s. Doors open at 6.30 for 7pm and tickets, £8, are available from Ada in church.

The

last Saturday raised £65 towards a fund for sending families who couldn’t afford otherwise on holidays or weekend breaks. Thanks to the MU and to all who attended.

We are looking for hats, gloves, socks, scarves and food for the homeless.

It would be appreciate­d if donations of tinned food were of the ring-pull variety. We are also looking for donations for our on September 30 at 9.30am.

Our autumn fair is on Saturday, November 10, in church, 11am to 1pm. Ada is looking for people who are willing to help.

Finally, David Longhurst is shaving his beard for and is looking for sponsors.

Tomorrow we have our usual at 9.30am. remember we have no evening service this Sunday as we are meeting over at Kirkholt Community Church on Daventry Road. Service starts at 6pm, all welcome.
