Mayfield one step from play-off final

-

MAYFIELD NWML side entertain Widnes Tigers at the Mayfield Sports Centre this afternoon in the semi final of the Division One play offs.

Last week’s conceded fixture ensured that Mayfield finished as league leaders, a magnificent achievement in anybody’s books. Their reward is a home fixture against fourth-placed Tigers.

Their opponents went down by two points last week in a 78-point thriller against third placed Latchford Albion so there are no illusions that today will be a foregone conclusion.

Tigers ran in 36 points against Mayfield last month, their heaviest defeat of the season, so Craig White and Neil Ramsden have a tough task trying to ensure that their team goes out in the right frame of mind with a positive attitude.

This is a winner takes all contest with the victor going through to the play off final next week.

Tigers are a good side with a powerful pack but if Mayfield realise their potential on the day they will be unstoppable.

With forwards like Jack Rush and the in-form Paul Riley being urged round the park by Callum Corchoran they are a match for anyone.

They also have one of the best sets of backs in league with Corey Newsham, Joe Schofield, Luke and Zac Hartley.

But they will be taking nothing for granted and will take to the field today knowing that nothing but their best will be good enough to secure that final spot.
