Boro edge five-goal thriller

- BEN SIMMONDS

ROCHDALIANS beat a strong Middleton Town side in the Newbold Tyres Premier Division in an encounter which ended 3-2.

Goals from Shay McConway, David Devlin and Lewis Helm all contributed to Middleton Town’s undoing, but the Rochdalians players managed the three points despite being 2-1 down 10 minutes into the second-half.

Dalians went into the half-time interval one goal to the good thanks to McConway but were unable to keep Middleton out of the game after the restart.

In the latter part of the second-half, Man of the Match Matty Knowles showed his class as he aided his team mates to find a way back into the lead.

Mark McKormack, Dalians manager, said: “I’m really happy with the result today. We did well to come back into the game despite falling behind just after the second half.”

When asked, McKormack wasn’t forthcoming on his expectations for the season but did say: “I won’t promise anything to anyone, but I genuinely believe that if we keep on winning games and taking our chances, then the chances are that well get the come the end of the season. “It’s still early.” Elsewhere in the division AFC Kearsley lost 3-1 to Littleborough to end their solid start to the season, meanwhile, Cartshaft and Coppice ended in a stalemate.
