Skipper Mitchell latest to commit to Hornets

-

HORNETS CLUB captain, Lee Mitchell is the latest player to commit his future to the club by signing a two year contract extension.

Mitchell, who joined the club initially on loan in the 2017 season, went on to make his move permanent ahead of the 2018 season where he played 31 times, scoring four tries, on top of his ten loan appearances the year before.

The former Warrington, Castleford and Harlequins forward made more than 50 Super League appearances and also enjoyed spells at Leigh, Whitehaven and Batley.

He becomes the latest player to resign with his team mates Seta Tala, Ben Moores and Joe Ryan all penning new deals last week as the club enters a new era under arriving head coach, Carl Forster.

“I’m really excited to get this over the line and commit the next two years to Rochdale,” said Mitchell. “I have really enjoyed my time here so far, and can’t wait to get to work with Carl (Forster) in pre-season.

“It’s an exciting time for the club and I’m happy to be a part of it.

“The club and the supporters have been great to me in the last two years I’ve been here and I’ve been incredibly proud to lead the club as captain in 2018. Although it was a tough year, we achieved our goal at the end of it and we need to build on that for next season.”

Meanwhile, prop forward Ryan soke of his decision to re-sign.

He joined the club from Workington Town part way through 2018 and featured regularly in the latter part.

The 23-year-old, formally of St Helens and Warrington, said it was an “easy decision” for him to commit to a new deal.

“I’m really happy to get to stay here after coming half way through the year,” said Ryan.

“It was an easy decision, in my opinion, after the club being so good with me.

“Now I’m looking forward to having a good pre season and excited to be working with Carl to develop my game.”
