Dalians and Town keep up winning ways

- BEN SIMMONDS

IN the Premier Division both high-flyers Rochdalians and Middleton Town were winners ahead of their much-anticipated fixture at the weekend.

Rochdalians dominated their game against a hard-battling Cartshaft, running out 4-1 winners, meanwhile Middleton Town managed to overturn a resilient AFC Kearsley in a slight 3-2 win.

Chris Petcu, Middleton’s boss, said: “It was a very tough game. We made hard work of it too due to a couple of injuries and lads working. We had eight players missing!

“We just scraped a team together and that was enough for us to grind out a result today.”

Elsewhere in the division Littleborough turned over Elton and Walshaw in a 5-2 away from home.

The win was Littleborough’s fourth in their first five Premier Division games this season, they currently sit in second and separate Rochdalians and Middleton Town.

In the Manchester Brick Specialist First Division Newhey Rovers dominated in a 6-1 win over Wardleworth, whilst Newhey Lodge also secured a 6-3 win over Jockey, as both sides cemented their place as number one and two in the division.

In the meantime, Avenue managed to seal a 5-2 win against Oldham GPO to move into fourth place and Warmersley Conservative Club clinched a 2-1 away win at Prestley FC to climb out of the bottom three.

Littleborough Second XI were also successful this weekend with a 1-0 win over Manchester Swift but still remain in the relegation zone.
