Abacus tot up goal tally in Cup win

THERE was a wide range of domestic and county cup action dominating the busy programme of matches but Abacus Media provided the outstandin­g result of the day.

They marched into the later stages of the Manchester Challenge Cup with a superb 5-1 win over Egerton FC.

Mellor were also in stunning form as they cruised through in the Stockport Senior Cup with a huge 12-0 win at Cheadle Heath Nomads.

Joining them in the next round are AFC Stockport who won a penalty shoot out at Cheadle Town seconds following a 1-1 deadlock in normal time.

Premier division high-fliers High Lane are also through with a comfortabl­e 7-1 win at Hillgate.

In tha delayed Manchester Amateur Cup tie Radclyffe eased through with a 5-2 win over Swinton but Unicorn bowed out of the Altrincham FA Cup losing 4-1 hosting Styal.

In the Rhodes Cup Old Ashtonians put aside their struggles in the Premier division to post an impressive 4-1 win over division two high fliers Hooley Bridge Celtic.

Premier division leaders Rochdalian­s kept up their superb form brushing aside division A leader Elton Lib Hargreaves 9-0.

Stoconians gave a good account of themselves before going 2-0 to Premier giants Whalley Range and Flixton also worked hard against Parrs Wood Celtic who have been scoring goals for fun in division one,

Determined defending and outstandin­g goalkeepin­g restricted Celtic to goals from Steven Hacker and Pat Davin, with his 22nd of the season in a hard-earned 2-0 win.

Dom Doyle are flying high in division one and they won their local derby at division two promotion hunters Newton in convincing manner with an emphatic 4-0 win.

Village Manchester are not having the best of seasons in division three but they brushed this aside with a giant-killing 2-1 win over Bedians.

There were also six games in the Wray Cup which produced wins for Rochdalian­s seconds by 6-1 at Aldermere, Chorltonia­ns seconds by 3-1 over Santos andChadder­ton Park by 3-2 at South Manchester seconds.

Few problems for Signol Athletic as they won their local derby with Heaton Mersey by 8-3.

Division two leaders Manchester Polonia were beaten 3-2 by Milton seconds from division three and Whalley Range seconds had to rely on keeping their nerve to win a penalty shoot out by 3-1 after being held 1-1by Abacus Media seconds

There were some close encounters in the Whitehead Cup with Chorltonia­ns Villa winning a penalty shoot out by 3-1 after a 1-1 draw at Old Stretfordi­ans seconds and Dukinfield Athletic seconds beat AFC Oldham seconds 2-1.

No problems for Rochdale Galaxy in a 7-1 win over Spurley Hey seconds and Stoconians seconds with a 5-2 victory over Trafford United seconds.

Division C teams were all in Hellawell Shield action with Irlam Tigers seconds on a high after a 7-1 win over Whalley Range thirds and Bury Ams thirds won 5-2 at Chorltonia­ns Albion.

Moston Brook fourths worked hard for a 3-2 over Govan Athletic and the other two games went to penalty shoot-outs.

Chadderton Park seconds and Old Stretfordi­ans had a rare goalless draw with Park winning the shoot out 3-1 and a thriller at Deans who were entertaini­ng Hollingwor­th seconds ended at 2-2 with Hollingwor­th going through 5-4 on penalties.
