Appeal to look out for missing rare dog Hurricane

-

THE ‘heartbroken’ owners of an extremely rare missing dog – one of only 10 in the country – are asking for neighbours’ help in finding her.

Searching continues for a missing rare breed dog called Hurricane, a Chinese Chongquing who went missing from the Huddersfield Road area, Newhey, in Rochdale on Saturday, November 17.

Hurricane was visiting relatives with her owner Andrew Rushton, 45, last weekend when she managed to escape through an open door. The family went after her but, being timid, she fled and the distraught family were unable to catch her.

Andrew, who is offering a cash reward for any information that helps find Hurricane, said: “As soon as she went out of the door my family did chase after her but as she is nervous around most people she continued to run.

“As I am a wheelchair user, by the time I managed to get to the place that she was last seen, there was no sign of her.

“I am absolutely heartbroken.”

Hurricane is microchipped and her chip number is now registered as ‘lost’ – she was wearing a red harness when she went missing. Chinese Chongquing dogs are extremely rare and date back to the Han Dynasty in Ancient China. Hurricane has very fine, downy fur, which makes her extremely vulnerable to the cold.

Local residents have been asked to keep a lookout for Hurricane and ask that if anyone has found the missing family pet, that they call them so they can reunite her with her family.

DogLost Area Coordinator Jan Lancashire said: “Andrew is absolutely devastated that Hurricane still hasn’t been found or handed over to the local dog warden.

“She is very much part of Andrew’s life and we really need to reunite these best friends.

“As the nights are getting darker and the colder months are just around the corner, Hurricane has very specialised needs so we need the help of everyone living in the area to bring her home.

“We are asking residents to check their gardens, sheds and other outhouses as she may be sheltering there.”

Experts from DogLost have said that should anyone spot Hurricane, to please not chase her as she is extremely nervous and will run if approached but have asked that people try to keep her in their view and call DogLost on 0844 800 3220.
