Littleborough ensure Leigh labour for win

-

LITTLEBOROUGH’S Under 18s Ladies made the short journey down the M62 to face Leigh in a 10-a-side match.

The visitors started the brighter with a few ventures into the Leigh 22. A long clearance kick was returned with interest as a mazy run from Maisie Webb saw her beat five defenders down the left side to score the first points of the match.

Leigh picked up their game and controlled the rest of the first half, scoring four tries in the process.

Nevertheless, Boro never gave up and dug deep to reply to two more tries from Leigh via a strong dart by fly half Erin Stott.

Despite having two tries disallowed the home side would finish the game strongly with a brace.

Littleborough U15s were pegged back by a good start from their Leigh counterparts.

A close range try from Ellie Fitzgerald gave the visitors a slender lead before the strong hosts hit back with a couple of tries.

Leigh went on to score another two tries towards the end of the half.

A try from Tilda Robinson-Burgess as well as a second for Fitzgerald saw the forwards make a real impact after the break.

But Leigh scored three of their own in between an exquisite try from Littleborough winger Mollie Yates.

Nevertheless, Leigh managed to stifle and smother any smouldering resistance to finish the victors from a bruising encounter.

Littleborough will hope to take an improved second half performance into their first home game in eight weeks as they host Liverpool St Helens at Rakewood tomorrow.

Another slow start for the Under 13s at Broughton Park saw the home side take an early lead, scoring two tries.

The Pink Warriors came back into the game stealing some ball in the ruck and the girls started knocking their opponents backwards.

Kady Hoyle got over the whitewash which then led to the two sides trading tries, leaving it 3-2 to Broughton. A further try apiece in the following five minutes saw Mia Wright burst clear to score and leave the girls trailing 4-3 at half time.

After the break, two quickfire scores from Niamh Clegg and another from Lucy Gregg took Boro into a well deserved lead.

Again another period of play saw each team swap five points. This time Aaliyah Buxton crossed for the visitors.

Broughton didn’t lie down and came back at the girls to restore their lead and hang on to the final whistle.

It was Waterfall Cup time for Littleborough’s Under 12s boys as they travelled to Burnley to take on Wigan and Rossendale.

First up was a Wigan side who were strong, quick and well drilled, Boro losing that contest 3-0.

The next game pitted them against a Rossendale side who had beaten their opponents just a mere three weeks ago.

However, this is a different Boro side who have come on leaps and bounds in recent weeks and they soared into a 3-0 lead through tries from Jamie Robertson, Jake Ramsden and Tom Deacon.

Rossendale fought back to make it 3-3 before debutant Tyde King broke the line and scored his first try in a Littleborough shirt.

A final passage of play deep in the Rossendale half resulted in Deacon diving over the line for his second try of the match on the final whistle. Littleborough got their revenge running out well deserved 5-2 winners.

Man of the match award went to Zak Brady, with moment of the match going to Bradley Fleming for a great covering tackle which prevented a sure fire Rossendale break away.
