Dressed for festive season

-

I ATTACH a photo of Rebecca the proprietor of the Cafe in Littleborough.

She has decorated the entire premise to reflect the current festive season and, as you can see, herself as well to help liven the village up. (Possibly a little early).

However such enterprise is to be commended as it helps to brighten up these drear winter days.

I hasten to add that I have no connection with the cafe except as a regular customer.

Other premises are also beginning to dress for the season and the Christmas lights are about to be switched on. Happy Christmas to all. Roger Sargent

PROVIDING GONDOLAS?

parking, Esplanade with few market stalls, Sunday it’s usually empty. To make our river like Venice, the council should provide gondolas. River opponent. (name and address supplied)

GARDENS SO BEAUTIFUL

I’M sure that I’m one of many people to say a huge congratulations to all gardeners and volunteers who work so hard to make the cenotaph/memorial gardens so beautiful.

They deserve that gold medal. This is the nicest area in the town centre. How about the mayor inviting those involved to the town hall so they can shake their hands to thanks them. ‘Passer by’, Rochdale (name and address supplied)

PLEASE DO SOMETHING

LAW and Order, What a joke.

Law and order in this country is virtually non existent. Violent criminals are laughing at our socalled justice system.

There is no deterrent these days and we are all being let down by the people we have voted into parliament.

All our young people are at risk on our streets, our elderly are at risk in their own homes (where they should be safe).

A 98-year-old ex-soldier beaten to a pulp in his home by (scum) for a £10 television. Young people being killed on our streets, stabbed to death. All MPs and people in the justice system hang your heads in shame! This is a priority!

Anyone caught carrying a knife in a public area should get 12 months in prison.

Anyone stabbing/ shooting anyone should get five years, no remission.

Anyone assaulting anyone in their own home should get five years, no remission.

Anyone killing anyone should get 20 years, no remission, unless it’s manslaughter.

Drug dealers (peddling filth) should get five years, no remission. They are a blight on society. Scum is rife on our streets, it needs to be removed, now!

There should be zero tolerance on anyone who attacks our emergency services. Tough justice is needed.

The soft approach has led to the violence we are now seeing. There is no respect for our fellow man anymore. Do something about it now or this situation will carry on and maybe get worse.

Please do something positive to deter scum. Brian Godley, Rochdale

TRACING RELATIVES

I HAVE been researching my family tree and am requesting the help of the residents of Littleborough and the surrounding area to trace relatives of the widow of my great uncle killed in the First World War.

Kenneth William Baxter married Betsy Gibson and they possibly had a son called John in 1913.

After Kenneth was killed in 1917, his next of kin was shown as Mrs Betsy Fogg as it is thought she remarried after he was killed, her new husband being Joseph Fogg.

It is likely son John took his stepfather’s name though there appears to be nothing in the records. Betsy died in 1946. I am asking if there are any relatives of Betsy, John or Joseph Fogg still in the Littleborough area and ask that they get in touch via the email address therobinstows@ talktalk.net.

Any information would be gratefully received. Mark Robinson Hereford
