Home comforts for the Warriors

-

LITTLEBOROUGH Pink Warriors Ladies won at home for the first time this season with a 22-0 victory over Ormskirk ladies.

Having arrived with only 11 players, Ormskirk were always going to find it tricky at a place like Rakewood. However, they wore their heart of their sleeve for the full 80 minutes to come away with a huge amount of pride.

Sportingly Samantha Brazier, Madeleine Sargent, Melissa Rigg, and Jennifer Evelyn donned the black and green and offered to play the first half for the visitors.

The game was a scrappy stop start affair in the greasy conditions, and Littleborough have played better this season.

On the other hand the home side held control for large periods of the half and turned around at half time with a 10 points advantage off the back of tries scored by Georgina Quinn and speedster Jessica Chadwick.

In the second half Lauren Parker, Keeley Mosoph, Rebecca Park, and Georgina Quinn swapped sides and wore the Ormskirk shirts.

Littleborough still struggled to get a flow in their performance in attack, however, showed a steely resilience in defence.

There were some strong individual performances within the team that was well led by skipper Olivia Turner. Megan Dickinson directed the forwards well at scrum half, with Claire Sutcliffe Jones being the stand out forward.

Claire Sutcliffe is starting to revel in the role at fly half, as shown with a beautiful pass to the winger for the second score. Whilst Summer Harris was the stand out back, playing at full back.

In the second half Littleborough did add two more tries through hard grafting front row forward Sharon Pearson.

One try was converted by Claire Sutcliffe, whilst Olivia Frain who had limped off injured, sportingly went back on to help Ormskirk who had lost a player to injury themselves.

Next week the Littleborough Pink Warriors Ladies will hope to repeat this past weekend’s feat as they host Burnley at 2pm at Rakewood.
