-

IT’S been a busy few weeks for Littleborough Boxing Club taking four wins out of five.

Joseph Vaughan and Sam Smith were fighting for the north west youth title in their respective age groups.

Smith was up first, fighting the experienced Clarke Smith of Timperley.

Sam boxed well against his opponent from Timperley but ultimately it was experience that shone through on the day giving the Timperley boxer the nod.

Vaughan was up next for Littleborough, fighting his opposition James Rowland from Carlisle Villa.

Vaughan is already two times North west champion and the bout got off to a great start with both boxers fighting to take the first round.

It wasn’t until the second round that Vaughan started to take over and really put Rowland under a lot of pressure. In the third round the Carlisle Opponent was given two standing counts making, Joe Vaughan the three-time North West Champion and giving him the chance to fight for the national title this weekend.

Meanwhile, Andrew Loveridge travelled over to Stockport College for a skills bout.

The 13-year-old hit his opponent Reid in the second round causing a nose bleed and ultimately the bout was stopped.

Littleborough boxer Kai Whitehead fought over at Middleton Arena against his opponent Mo Haroon.

The bout never really got going by way of action, however Kai kept a disciplined performance against his strong Middleton opponent and won the bout on a unanimous decision.

Christie Joyce fought over in Eccles, coming out in the first round and boxing strong from the off.

The second round was a little closer and the third round was taken by the Eccles boxer. However it was enough over the three rounds to get Christie the win with an unanimous decision.

Also on that bill was Willy Loveridge having his second skills bout. He showed a fantastic display of boxing which was commented after the fight by the referee.

Head Coach Mark Oldham said: “The club is progressing all the time, we are happy just quietly improving on what we do and we are now consistently doing better where it counts, All the boxers in the gym have a great Attitude to training and we have a good team of coaches helping drive that”
