Sale Sharks stars and coaching staff in town

-

RUGBY-MAD youngsters in Rochdale will have the chance to meet star players from Premiership Rugby team Sale Sharks this August after the club announced it will visit the town to deliver a special summer rugby camp.

Designed for boys and girls aged between six and 12, the camps give young players the chance to learn new skills from the club’s award-winning community coaches over the space of two-days.

Famous names such as Sam James, Josh Beaumont and Luke James are among the players in line to make special appearances across the north west to take part in the sessions.

The Rochdale rugby camp is due to take place at Rochdale RUFC between 27 and 28 July, running from 9am to 3.30pm each day.

Those taking part can expect to receive expert advice from Rugby Football Union (RFU) qualified coaches on core skills such as running, evasion, handling, kicking, tackling and decision-making in both attacking and defending positions. Darren Lamon, lead coach for the Sale Sharks rugby camps, said: “These camps are great fun for young players to get involved in and the perfect activity for parents looking to keep the children busy in the summer holidays.

“They give players of all abilities the chance to try out rugby.

“But we’ve also seen a lot talent across the north west in previous years and have had players go on to join our Academy and even play for the first team.

Over the years our camps have become more and more popular and we hope this year is the same.

“We’re anticipating an amazing few days of rugby in Rochdale, but we’re expecting places to sell quickly so we’re encouraging people to book as early as possible.”

Sale Sharks and England U18s winger, Tom Roebuck and former Sale Sharks captain Will Addison were both scouted at the club’s summer camps in previous years.

All training is based around RFU’s KidsFirst rules – and based on Sale Sharks’ own coaching philosophy: “A player centred approach to coaching, focused on core skill development and delivered through adaptive games.”

The camps, which are being run in conjunction with Premiership Rugby, cost £50 per child and that price includes a Sale Sharks branded gift and as well as a ticket to a Sharks home game.
