Residents out to halt homes plan

MORE than 30 angry residents have opposed plans to build four threestorey homes on a street that that they say is already “over-developed.”

Plans have been submitted to put the buildings on Woodbine Street, in Rochdale, but concerns have been voiced regarding current problems with traffic, drugs, parking, and anti-social behaviour.

Mum-of-four, Sharon Taylor, 39, has lived on the street for 14 years and branded the plans “ridiculous.”

She began the petition, which garnered 34 signatures, and has now been handed in to Rochdale Borough Council.

She told the Observer: “There is one way into the street and one way out.

“We have 101 other

issues with behaviour.

“We’re hoping we’ll get the plans stopped but the council aren’t interested in the impact it has on people.

“They’re happy to throw up houses anywhere.

“The development is going to make everything worse.”

Sharon, whose youngest child is only one, has said parking is too bad on the street for bin men or emergency services to get down. She has asked where the cars for this development will be able to go, as the street is often congested due to the nearby doctors.

For plans ‘The Chimneys’ development were submitted by Imtiaz Ahmed, from MK Developments, based on Crawford Street in Rochdale.

They say that there will be two car park spaces per dwelling, but have not outlined where they will anti-social be. If approved, the existing bungalow on the plot will be demolished to make way for the four houses.

Sharon added: “Where the consultation has been, I don’t know. It’s not the people who live on the street [who are causing the problems]. My neighbours are lovely. ”

She added that the scheme could worsen problems with anti-social behaviour and add extra pressure on nearby doctors and the local chemist.

MK Development’s agent, Peter Walker, from Halifax, West Yorkshire, declined to comment when contacted by the Observer.
