Two men are arrested after cyclist is hit by car

TWO men have been arrested on suspicion of drugs offences after a cyclist was hit by a car in Rochdale.

The injured woman was airlifted to hospital by the air ambulance following the crash on Todmorden Road, at the junction with Dean Head, on Monday night.

Witnesses said the Seat Ibiza ploughed into a front garden after hitting the cyclist.

The 56-year-old bike rider suffered serious injuries. She remains in hospital.

A Greater Manchester Police spokeswoma­n said her injuries are not thought to be life-threatenin­g.

Officers

arrested two men on suspicion of drugs offences following the incident.

Both were arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class B drugs, while one is also suspected of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

They have both been released under investigat­ion.

Images taken in the aftermath of the incident showed a mangled red bike and the car in the garden of a house.

The cyclist is still in hospital with injuries that are thought not to be life threatenin­g.

The GMP spokeswoma­n said: “A Seat Ibiza struck a cyclist.

“A 56-year-old woman suffered serious injuries, not life-threatenin­g. She is in hospital. The occupants of the Ibiza were arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class B drugs.”

A spokeswoma­n for North West Ambulance Service said: “We were called just after 7pm last night to Dean Head, at the junction with Todmorden Road, to reports of a serious road traffic collision.

“We sent an ambulance, a rapid response vehicle and the air ambulance to the scene.

“She was taken by air ambulance to hospital with serious injuries.

“We informed the hospital we were on the way with her.”
