Big names signing up to Literature Festival

-

TICKETS for Rochdale Literature and Ideas Festival are now on sale, as organisers have added some more famous faces to the line-up.

Former Blue Peter presenter and now children’s author Konnie Huq will be appearing at the annual event in October - as will Gogglebox star Reverend Kate Bottley.

Organisers Rochdale Borough Council are urging book lovers to book their discount tickets now for up to 25 per cent off before August 27.

Councillor Janet Emsley, cabinet member for neighbourhoods, community and culture said: “Our early-bird offer is always popular, so once again we are encouraging people to book early, with hundreds of tickets reduced until 27 August.

“The more events you book, the bigger the saving and with the majority of tickets already £6 or less it’s a very good value festival. We have a packed programme - an amazing combination of international names, theatre, comedy, poetry, workshops and more.”

This year there are over 30 events in 10 venues from 14 to 21 October, plus preview events earlier in the month.

Shows announced this week include the Reverend Kate Bottley, who will be talking about her road to faith and philosophy on life. TV presenter Konnie Huq will present her family science show and international bestselling crime author and poet Sophie Hannah will be talking about her work.

The festival also features the previously announced feel-good fiction writer Milly Johnson, blogger, author and activist Erin Ekins, popular children’s authors Harry Heape and Hannah Lee, as well as award winning illustrator Olivia Lomenech Gill.

Events will cover drama, comedy, poetry, spoken word, visual arts and children’s shows. For young people aged 14 to 25, there will be another ‘Generation Z’ programme.
