Mature Camps’priceless’ in BBM’s system

-

BRIAN Barry-Murphy hailed two-goal midfielder Callum Camps as ‘priceless’ after the 23-year-old scored a brace against Bolton in midweek.

The Dale Academy graduate has started the season strongly in a more advanced role and BBM has been impressed.

“There is a great maturity in Callum. Last season, he really came to the fore for me, and was a leader of the group at all times during the game.

“He has a great understanding tactically of the way that we want to play the game and he implements that on the pitch. He’s a great organiser and great leader of that group.

“He’s priceless to me in the way that he interprets the game.”

Rochdale remain unbeaten so far this season, having secured four points from an available six from their opening two league games, as well as securing progression in the Carabao Cup.

“There’s a great excitement amongst the players because they challenge each other and in turn the challenge me. They are very receptive to working hard and they’ve worked hard from the very first day of preseason.

“There are going to be defeats along the way, it’s inevitable, and those could come very soon, but the players are prepared to do everything they can to not lose games.

“They are very, very competitive and I think it’s important that we won the game tonight after having a set-back late in the game on Saturday.

“That’s something we also did well last season – we bounced straight back, and these players bounced straight back tonight despite there being some tough moments in the game and it being a tough test.”
