Singer’s tribute to tragic pal in debut single
ASINGER has dedicated her poignant debut release to the memory of a friend, murder victim Katelyn Parker.
Mercedy Purcell, 27, wrote her break-out single, Gone, in memory of 24-year-old Katelyn, from Milnrow, who was murdered in August 2015.
Mercedy, from Castleton, penned the lyrics to her song, and directed and casted the music video herself.
Mercedy said: “It was a hard time for me.
“I had a pretty solid idea of what I was going to write, although I was quite new to lyric writing.
“I used to have a problem getting it down on paper. I just hope to do well for myself.
“It was a hard time for
me. Katelyn always had a smile on her face, even if she wasn’t quite happy in herself. I will always remember that.”
Despite a muscle-wasting disease and a heart condition, Mercedy has always pursued her dreams of being a singer, actress and model, and was recently signed by manager Phil Brown, from Nottingham, who has helped her to fulfil these dreams.
Manager Phil said: “Mercedy has had quite a tough time in the past, and to come through what she’s been through, and to be where she is now is incredible.
“The song was written about one her best friends.
“It was filmed and produced by Seventh Gate Media.
“We have been working with Mercedy for three years, but she’s been working hard at what she does for many years.
“The first conversation we had with her was that she was thinking of quitting the industry.”
But Mercedy regained her confidence, going on to write Gone, which will be released on September 5.
Heywood man Lee Nolan, then 48, was jailed for life in February 2016 for Katelyn’s murder.
