Routine win keeps Boro in the hunt

-

LITTLEBOROUGH kept their promotion hopes alive at a murky and wet Rishton with a relatively straight victory on Sunday.

Rishton won the toss and decided to bat and before the captain could blink, batting at four, he was at the crease with the score on 5/2 with Wilman removing both openers care of two catches by messrs Miskella and Bentley.

What happened next was a mixture of accurate bowling and responsible batting as skipper Boddie and pro Amjad put on a much needed 106 for the fourth wicket albeit as at a snails pace before the impressive Wilman snapped up Boddie for a gutsy 43.

The rest of the innings was a procession as the score limped to 138/8 at the end of innings.

Amjad made 64, Wilman finished with 4/29 and was the pick of the bowlers with Miskella and Townsend each picking a wicket apiece.

Hernon and Zac Perren opened the visitors innings and from ball one Littleborough never looked like not getting over the line.

They put on 37 for the first wicket before Perren got snapped up in the slips before Hernon fell for 23 including five boundaries and will be kicking himself for no ending up 60 not out as he looked in no trouble at all.

The score as 48/2 and that became 54/3 when Travis was castled by his opposite number.

That was about as good as it got for Rishton as Miskella and Clinton Perren put on 51 for the fourth wicket and took the team to the edge of victory amidst a couple of rain breaks before Miskella hit a full toss up in the air and fell for 13 with just 4 needed for victory.

It was a very fitting end as Clinton Perren eased his way to 24 not out and hit the winning runs in front of his parents who had come over to visit the family.

A 24-point haul this weekend and this young Boro side could still enjoy a fitting end to the season.
