Ex-mayor’s £10,000 gift for hospice

SPRINGHILL Hospice were delighted to receive a donation of £10,000 from Councillor Mohammed Zaman, the previous Mayor of Rochdale.

Coun Mohammed Zaman, who was Mayor of Rochdale during 2018/19, raised £10,000 for the local Hospice, as well as supporting other charities both local and national.

The cheque was presented to the Chief Executive of Springhill Hospice, Julie Halliwell. After a chat about the Hospice and its services Mrs Halliwell showed Cllr Zaman around the Hospice and its gardens along with his daughter, Naaira.

Chief Executive, Julie Halliwell said: “It has been an absolute pleasure to work with Cllr Zaman and his daughter Naaira during his Mayoral Year.

“Cllr Zaman and Naaira have been hugely supportive of the Hospice, turning up to events, and spending time in The Hospice with patients and their families.

“We are so grateful to everyone on the Mayoral Charity

Committee who have all worked so hard to raise such an incredible amount of money during the year, and also grateful to all those who have supported the events.”

Other charities that Cllr Zaman supported during his time as Mayor include; Rochdale Heartbeat, Petrus, Parkinson’s UK, Rochdale Community Partnershi­p and Moorland Children’s Home.
