Surgery in triple triumph

- Patrick.jack@reachplc.com @patrickjackMEN

ADOCTORS surgery has been polled as the second best in all of Greater Manchester for the third successive year.

Milnrow Village Practice beat 445 practices in the region but was narrowly pipped to the number one spot as the patients’ choice.

Having achieved the same result in both 2017 and 2018, and having been awarded an ‘outstanding’ rating by the health regulator earlier this year, it marks “the cherry on the top” for the practice.

The new league table is based on the latest findings from the GP Patient Survey - a huge ongoing poll involving more than a million people a year. It covers everything from the trust patients have in their doctor, to the attitude of reception staff and how easy it is to get an appointment.

Our data team has crunched the numbers in seven key areas: how easy it is to get an appointment, whether opening times are convenient, whether people trust the GP, whether the GP listens to them,

whether the GP treats them with care and concern, whether receptionists are helpful and how patients rate their overall experience.

One hundred per cent of patients at the Newhey Road practice said their GP listens to them, while 99pc said they were treated with care and concern.

More than 98pc found the receptionists to be helpful and more than 97pc said their overall experience of the surgery was good.

These results were enough to place Milnrow Village Practice as the 51st best in England - out of a total 6,859.

Alison Wallace, one of the partners, said: “We are delighted that we have been able to maintain our position for another year.

“In January this year we were awarded the CQC rating of Outstanding following a routine inspection.

“This was a fantastic achievement and now finding out that we have maintained the position in the national survey result is the cherry on the top for us.

“The whole team work so hard and deserve this recognition. Our patients are very supportive and are as pleased about the result as we are, which makes the hard work worthwhile.”

In January 2019, the practice was rated ‘outstanding’ by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and hailed for its ‘innovative approaches’ to educate its patients.

The Surgery 1, in Stockport, was the only Greater Manchester practice to finish above Milnrow Village.

In order to rank all surgeries nationwide, we looked at weighted survey results in each of the seven key areas. Each surgery was given a rank for its performance in each area. Those category rankings were then added up to give an overall ranking. Surgeries which had fewer than 50 responses were excluded on the basis that the sample was too small to draw reliable conclusions.
