CORONATION Street star Katie McGlynn has completed her final scenes on the soap.

The Rochdale actress is at the centre of a heartbreaking storyline which will see her character Sinead Tinker lose her battle with cervical cancer.

This week the young mum discovers the cancer has returned after her aunt Beth Sutherland finds a lump in her neck on her wedding day.

Katie, who has played Sinead since 2013, tweeted: “Officially finished filming today... anybody hiring actresses around here? 7 years

experience on the worlds longest running soap? #actressforhire #lastfilmingday #endofanera.”

Sinead was diagnosed with cervical cancer while she expecting her son Bertie last year, after ignoring symptoms, and temporarily stopped her treatment as she was worried it would harm her unborn child.

She restarted the chemotherapy and for a while it looked as though she was responding well, but the cancer is now aggressive and untreatable.

It has spread to her lymph nodes and her liver and the Underworld machinist only has months to live.

Sinead’s final scenes will air later in the autumn.

One fan told Katie: “So sad you are leaving Coronation Street. So emotional Sinead’s storyline. You are awesome. Thank you for your time on the show. Wishing you all the best for the future. You can do anything you put your heart mind and soul into. I have faith belief and confidence in you too.”

Coronation Street has worked closely with charities Mummy’s Star, the charity dedicated to women and their families affected by cancer during pregnancy, and Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust on the storyline to ensure accuracy.

The 26-year-old actress also posted a hard-hitting health message on social media while reflecting on the importance of Sinead’s story.

Katie wrote: “As a team we felt Sinead’s ending on the show should highlight the importance of cervical cancer screenings and that women NEED to go smear tests.

“Also, to highlight the issues women face when affected by cancer in or around pregnancy.

“Everyone has for their been working so hard on this storyline and I just hope I do Sinead, the show and the thousands of women out their who have been in Sinead’s position, justice...”
