Plate progress for Boro’s boys

- HARRY HANSON

FIRST Game of the New Season 2019/20 and Boro stepped up to the plate and put on a great display against a higher rated team to start their new season, well done.

Weather conditions good for running rugby, which Boro used to great success throughout the match and with quite a changed team that has played for many seasons, a positive approach.

Kick Off saw Boro on immediate positive attacking play but up against opposition stronger in set scrums.

Then a great threequarter move by Boro saw winger Nathan Coop run in to score the opening Try after only 15minutes, his first of two and he also converted

Then further strong play by David Kearns, now selected to play at No8 position and good strong tackle by winger Liam Lloyd on his opposite number, found Boro still on the attack.

End of first quarter Boro received a penalty award but unfortunately the

ball hit the upright and bounced out but soon after Centre Threequarter George Roberts took the

ball well to cross the line for Boro’s second Try, again conversion by Coop after only 30 minutes play.

Then Boro’s faithfull supporters hadn’t long to wait before winger Liam Lloyd again crossed the line for another Boro Try with Coop converting again, to make Boro’s score now 21 points.

Boro’s Stand Off Jack Whittles was making good use of the ball he received from his Scrum Half Cameron Kenworthy either by good passes out to his threequarters or usefull distant ball kicks to touch.

Then just prior to half time the opposition did get on the front foot and managed a converted Try to make the half time score 21-7.

The second half started with the vsitors on the front foot and pressing in Boro,s half but again Boro came back into the game with a strong break by Kearns followed by captain Chris Park to once more put Boro into opposition 25 metres area.

Not long after this was followed by Boro Forwards making strong attacking moves but then once again the visitors themselves started to make ground and resulted in them scoring their second try but this time without conversion.

Then once more good hands on the ball by Boro found Mathew Goldthorpe who showed his speed and crossed the tryline for yet another converted Try for Boro.

And that same player soon made yet another good penetrating run followed later with only 6minutes play left Winger Nathan Coop crossed the tryline for his second Try and conversion.

Still not finished and just before the final whistle again winger Lloyd, from his own half once again put in a powerfull run to score his second Try again converted by Coop.

A great afternoon Rugby success by all of Boro players to make a great start of the season and can look forward to a further Home game next Saturday. For his strong play and contribution to the team in his new role the “Man of the Match “went to David Kearns.

Also back into the Clubhouse later young Cameron Kenworthy was voted the best of the Threequarters, well done to him.
