Limeside get off the mark

-

LIMESIDE King George won 8-2 against Rochdale Sacred Heart to claim their first win of the season in the Rochdale & District SFL.

Heart’s poor run of form continues after slumping to four defeats in five games.

Meanwhile, Avenue won 8-0 against Oldham GPO to claim top spot. The newly promoted side have won four in four.

Adam Thomas said, “Another good win for us, continuing our run. To be honest we’ve spoke all season about there being no pressure on us in this league. We are the new lads in the division.

“There’s no pressure on us to go and win this league, the pressure is on Rochdalians and Middleton Town to stop us winning it.

“So the fact we are top is a good position, but nothing more than that to the lads. They’re just playing and enjoying week in week out.

“It’s vital to keep ourselves grounded and not get carried away. We know its a tough division and we know the challenges we will face throughout the season.”

Newhey Lodge Sports Bar also claimed a 6-1 win against Chaddy End.

The win returned them to winning ways following last week’s 4-2 defeat to Avenue.

In the Second Division Prestley won 9-1 against North Manchester Lions.

Prestley sit top of the tree, having won four in five games having scored 21 goals.

Dhaviland Wanderers won 5-0 against Rochdale Dynamos.

Elsewhere Duke of Wellington won 2-1 against Empire.

In the Butterworth Cup First Round Breightmet Wanderers bowed out in a 4-2 defeat at the hands of AFC Swan.

Breightmet manager Darren Makin said: “The lads unfortunately never turned up and we didn’t have all our first eleven.

“We now look to our game against Clayton on Sunday.”
